Abstract

The role of education in encouraging student giftedness manifests itself in the improvement of the identification process and the implementation of the appropriate methods, forms, and approaches in work and curricula that should be adapted to the individual student profile. A competent teacher, who is trained and intrinsically motivated to work with students who show above-average abilities, plays an indispensable role, directing potential giftedness towards manifest giftedness. Support for gifted students is still not present sufficiently, which neglects and underestimates the specifics of gifted students and the challenges they face in the modern educational system. Therefore, this paper actualizes, still insufficiently researched, the topic of education of gifted students who represent the driving force of the development of modern society. The paper deals with the theoretical consideration of the phenomenon of giftedness, the characteristics of gifted students and the competencies of teachers necessary for work with gifted students. Furthermore, the difference in teaching and approaches in working with gifted students.
