Papers published in the journal are subject to at least two anonymous reviews, and are classified into the following categories:

  1. Original scientific paper – original scientific work presenting new findings from fundamental or applied research
  2. Preliminary communication – scientific articles that provide at least one or more pieces of scientific information, but may lack sufficient details for readers to fully evaluate the scientific findings.
  3. Review – articles that summarize existing literature on a specific topic, aiming to explain the current state of understanding
  4. Professional paper – article that contains knowledge relevant to a particular profession but has no scientific characteristics (i.e., it does not bring original results of the author's research, but rather it uses previously published results which are synthesized and explained.

In general, articles should not exceed 32 typeset pages (60,000 characters) and the number of appendices (images, maps, plates, etc.) should be proportional to the length of the article. The specific category under which an article is published is determined by the Editorial Board in consultation with two reviewers (or more, if necessary). Other manuscripts and contributions (reviews, biographies, bibliographies, etc.) are classified into occasional sections.
