Abstract

The author researches the scenographies of the academic painter Zdenko Venturini at the Croatian National Theatre in Zadar. He worked in the 1950s in the demolished Zadar and created productions that in no way lagged behind the scenographies of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. Namely, the EXAT 51 group played a significant role in creating Croatian scenography in the 50s of the last century. The author primarily investigates articles on the scenography that Venturini printed in magazines and exhibition catalogues. He advocated complete performances devoid of any details. According to the available photographs and reviews from weekly newspapers, the scenographies are reconstructed, divided into neutral, abstract, architectural elements, and realistic ones.
