This paper's objective is to involve learners in focusing on the more subtle mechanisms of both their mother tongue, Croatian, in this instance, and English as a second language. Therefore, it pinpoints a set of basic rules of capitalisation and punctuation by means of placing the two languages in juxtaposition with each other in order to notice the differences between them as for the aforementioned rules. These dissimilarities, which are the focal point of this paper, are exemplifiedto facilitate the learner's application of these rules. Hopefully, it will raise learners' awareness of the importance of being on their best linguistic behaviour in terms of formal writing.Downloads
