Abstract

The author deals with the text of a medieval poem which treats the theme of love in a special manner. It is a 15th century poem »against women« beginning with the Une »Sllši vsaki človik ovo« (»Let every man hear this«). The poem was already published by Strohal in 1916 as a part of the medieval prose composition Cvit vsake mudrosti, which in turn is the translation of the prose tvork Fiore di virtu, but the poem itself has not attracted any special attention of otfr investigators. The author treats the text from a literary hištorical and aesthelic point of view. He gives bibliographical and other information about it in the first place, and then he deals with the original mamiscript of the poem and adđs the transllte- rated version with notes on scribal errors and illegibilitles. The author pays special attention to place and time of its oi'igin. Although ihere are no expllcit data, the author is of opinion that the poem could have been written about the middle of the 15th century, but certainly not earlier than the beginning of Ihe century, probably in the »ikavian« area of the Zadar provlnce. It is impossible to establish that the poem is an original Croatian productlon, although according to some indications in the text it could be assumed so. At any rate, it is not easy to find its direct source in medieval poetry in Europe, but according to the treatment of the theme it evidently belongs to the general fundus of medieval poetry. It was written by a monk who was in favour of the intro- duction of celibacy. The author proves that the writer of the poem hađ some notions of medieval poetics. Then follows the discussion of tihe treatment of the theme ii later periods of Croatian literature as well as the echoes of the poem. The author thinks that the research into stylistic and spiritual relations in different literary periods in general would give rtew results.
