INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING MANUSCRIPTS

MemorabiLika publishes works on the Lika region and general local heritage (history, archaeology, geography, language, literature, customs and traditions, landscape, society, and archival materials). Launched in 2018 by the State Archives in Gospić and the University of Zadar, the journal is published annually in Croatian with English abstracts and keywords. Submissions in English or other Slavic languages are also welcome.

The journal does not accept previously published manuscripts or those under simultaneous consideration by other journals.

Manuscripts should be a maximum of 20 pages (including title, abstracts, keywords, bibliography, and appendices). An English abstract and up to 5 keywords (listed alphabetically) in both Croatian and English are required. A Croatian abstract is mandatory for submissions in foreign languages.

The papers published in the journal undergo a double-anonymous peer review process and are classified into the following categories:

  1. Original scientific paper – original scientific work presenting new findings from fundamental or applied research,
  2. Preliminary communication – a scientific article that provides at least one new valuable scientific information but may lack sufficient details for readers to fully evaluate the scientific findings,
  3. Review – an article that summarizes existing literature on a specific topic, offering insights into the current scientific knowledge,
  4. Professional paper – an article that represents valuable contributions from the field of expertise, not necessarily based on original research.

The abstract (up to 200 words) should clearly state the manuscript's purpose, primary results, and conclusion.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via email to memorabilika@gmail.com. Following the peer-review process, authors will be asked to submit a digital version of the final manuscript incorporating the reviewers' feedback.

Manuscripts should be submitted using Microsoft Word for Windows. The text should be in Times New Roman font (size 12), with 1.5 line spacing, and justified, with no indentation for the first line of paragraphs. Use bold for emphasized words or sentences. Italicize book titles, journal names, and other examples as needed.

The first page of your article should include the author's full name on a separate line. Below the name, please provide your institutional affiliation (institution name and address) on a new line. Finally, include your email address on a new line following the affiliation.

Please write the title of your article in uppercase letters and center-align it on the page. The abstract should follow immediately after the main title. The body text for the abstract should be left-aligned. Headings should not be numbered.

Place footnotes on the page below the main text body. Use Times New Roman font (10) with single spacing (1).

Tables, graphs, and figures (JPEG, TIFF, and PDF) should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals (e.g., Table 1, Table 2; Figure 1, Figure 2). Images should be submitted separately from the text in digital form.

Authors are requested to use consistent quotation marks, such as "Quote." For citations within quotes or to emphasize terms, use half-quotation marks, such as 'term.'

The English abstract should follow the list of references. It should include the article title in lowercase letters and centered.

Keywords are listed below the corresponding abstract, starting flush left without indentation.

When citing literature, please pay attention to the following:

In-text citations should include the author's surname, year of publication, and page number enclosed in parentheses within the main text rather than in footnotes.

Multiple references by the same author should be arranged chronologically. If citing works by the same author with the same publication year, differentiate them with letters after the year (a, b, c) in alphabetical order by title.

The Reference List at the end of the manuscript should be formatted as follows:

Open Access

MemorabiLika is an Open Acces journal. All content is available free of charge. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link the material, as well as transform and build upon the material or use it for any lawful purpose, provided that the original work is properly cited, in accordance with CC BY 4.0 licence.

Charges

No Article Processing Charges (APCs) are associated with submitting papers, reviews, or publishing articles in the journal.

Article Submission and Verification

Submission of an article implies that the work has not been published previously (except as an abstract, lecture, or academic thesis), that it is not under consideration elsewhere, and that its publication is approved by all authors and the institution where the research was conducted.

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the editor-in-chief (and editorial board members) to assess suitability for the journal. Manuscripts that meet the journal's criteria are then screened for originality using plagiarism detection software. Authors are responsible for ensuring their work exhibits less than 20% overlap with published works to avoid rejection. Submissions with significant overlap to published data will be rejected without further review (even in cases of self-plagiarism). Suitable manuscripts undergo a duble- blind peer review process, whereby the identities of both authors and reviewers are mutually concealed. A third reviewer may be involved for manuscripts with one negative review if necessary. The editor-in-chief accepts or rejects articles based on the reviewers' recommendations. Editors abstain from making decisions for manuscripts they have written themselves or those written by family members or close associates. Such submissions undergo the journal's standard review procedures.

Archiving

MemorabiLika journal supports green open-access archiving (pre-print, peer-reviewed, and published versions of manuscripts). Authors may deposit their articles in institutional and thematic repositories without time restrictions and free of charge, provided they include links to the journal's website and Hrčak database.

GDPR Compliance

MemorabiLika adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) regarding data privacy. The journal collects data about authors, reviewers, and editors, including names, titles, contact information, areas of professional interest, and biographies. This information is used exclusively for editorial purposes, such as selecting reviewers, facilitating communication, and providing necessary details in published articles. Data is used only to the extent required for these purposes, and any information not included in the article or acknowledgments will not be shared with third parties. Data will be stored until consent is withdrawn or a deletion request is submitted by the author/reviewer/editor.
