Abstract

Mount Gračić (131 m) is the most imponimi archaeological site in Žmovnica. It has been continuously inhabited from prehistoric till present times. Tile greatest number of all finds come from lite Antiquity, precisely, from the Principale and Dominate periods. In this paper the author deals with the finds of late-Roman coins and fragments of stone church furnishings. The latter ones prove die existence of a late-Roman settlement (refugium) of considerable size as well as an early Christian church situated on die location of the present St. Michael church. Finds of the pre-Romanesque jewellery show that Gračić keeps its importance and life continuity in the subsequent periods. Further the author compares archaeological finds with the only historical sources that mentions two late-Roman civitates - Gedate and Unione id est Musaro - along the road passing through die central part of Poljica region leading down to the sea near Stobreč (Ravenat, Cosmography, IV, 16; V, 14). On the basis of the location of Gedate to Gata near Omiš and of general archaeological topography of the area in question, the author has no doubts that Gračić should be identified widt one of the settlements from Ravenat's equation Unione id est Musaro. The most probable location of Unione should be looked for either in Žrnovnica or in Srinjine, while Gračić should fit best for Musaro.
