Sigismund’s revenge against Horvats and an attempt of submission of Bosnian Kingdom

Abstract

The relationship of Sigismund and Bosnia at the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century has been investigated. Bill all the answers about separate questions of this mutual relationship (sufferings of the family Horvat, first and second Dobor buttles as well as the so- called Doboj battle) are no, enough for the complete illumination of the mentioned problems. Ibis article is an attempt to throw more light on the problem and Io clear up some disagreements. It is based on some newly found sources.
Special attention is given to the first Dobor battle in 1394. second Dobor battle in 1408 and to the so-called Doboj battle in the middle of August of 1415. After the firs! battle and the sufferings of the family Horvat, the Bosnian king Stjepan Ostojo had to give up his dominance over Dalmatia and Croatia, according to the rules of the so-called »Đakovo agreement". King Stjepan Tvrtko II Tvrtković did not die in the second Dobor battle in 1408 as stated in our older and foreign historiographies. He was still the king at the beginning of the following year. The third question to which most space is devoted is the so-called Doboj battle in 1415. The opinions on this subject have been divided in our and foreign historiography, Il concerns the dale and the place of this event. The author tries to clear up these points. He has established on the basis or little known source that the battle took place in the middle of August in 1415 around the Assumption lime. The place where the bailie took place could not have been Doboj. Il could be said it, was in the valley of Lašva where the Hungarian army penetrated. The rest of the article is devoted to the last years of the rule of Sigismund and his so-called Balkan politics when the question of Bosnia was prominent and when there was an attempt to make kih a king of Bosnia.
