Abstract

Employment and unemployment are two important components of the study of structure and position of peasant and working class in Dalmatia in the period between the two Great Wars. In this paper the author analyzed archive data and statistical indicators. This study points out to the unemployment characteristics as consequences of the great economic crisis, which strongly grasped all industrial branches. Statistical records did not include workers employed in agriculture. Therefore the registered unemployed rate seems less than it really was and it hides the grave social situation of Dalmatian society. Even in the period jusi before the war, the insufficiently developed economy (that was under the conlrol of foreign Capital) was not capable to render more permanent or more durable employment.
