Two baroque altarists in Zadar area

Abstract

Many churches were remade in the spirit of baroque in Zadar in the 18th c. There is a loit oi material to which no special attention has been given. This article deals with the work of two altarists of the mentioned period. The first, Michiel Coste opened his altar workshop in Nin and worked in Zadar area for 28 years (1752—1780). His works are the following: Sacramental altar in the cathedral in Pag, baptistry in the same church, St. Dominique and St, Vincent’s altars in the Dominican church in Zadar and the altar of St Roko for the parish church in the village of Bibinje. The other master, Gasparo Albertini, has been known to us but three more works are mentioned here. St. Valentine’s alter for the cathedral in Pag, tabernacle for the church in the village Diniška and the tabernacle for the church in Kolan (all on Pag).
