Abstract

The author explains historiographical and didactical meaning of standards in teaching Croatian history until the 16"' century in the second grade of the grammar school. A didactical experiment has proved that realisation of the standards in the programmed - problem-based learning influences the formation of new attitudes of pupils toward subject matter, teacher, evaluation of self-success, usefulness of the subject matter and leaching quality, in relation to the traditional education. In addition to the change of altitudes, pupils of the experimental group achieved far greater level of knowledge in the shorter period of time titan the pupils of the control group. The experiment has pointed out the need of essential changes in history teaching in Croatia.
