Abstract

The article looks at the review of Ana Vidović's collection of poema Pjesme that appeared in the Venetian weekly II Vagtio and which the author sees as the result of the interest Dalmatians (both Italians and Croats) working in Italy had to propagate works written in Croatian. As a poetess of the Croatian Revival coming from Dalmatia who also wrote in Italian, Ana Vidovid helped to spread Croatian culture and history in Europe. In his review, Vincenzo Solitro seems not to know that he is dealing with a representative of Revival literature. In accordance with romantic interests, he emphasizes the Morlacchi elements in Ana Vidović’s poetry although his point of departure were earlier articles belonging to the illuminist approach; in addition, Solitro experiences the poetess' language in the pan-Slavic romantic fashion. The comparisons he draws with Kažotić and Pellegrini reveal Solilro’s familiarity with the literature written in Dalmatia and show the results of the Croatian-Italian symbiosis. The context in which the review made its appearance indicates a considerable presence of Dalmatia-Venice "connections" in one or the modern Italian journals.
