A contribution to the study of anglicisms in Serbo-Croatian (Interference on the level of word- -formation

Abstract

This article deals with the problem of word-formation from the point of view of languages in contact and linguistic borrowing in general. The aim of this article is to find out English elements in the Serbo-Croatian language, to analyse them according to the rules of word-formation of the receiving language and to see whether English elements have influenced the word-formation of the Serbo-Croatian language. The analysis covers: a) prefixation b) suffixation c) composition. English and Serbo-Croatian are different enough in their structure and lexicon so as to provide interesting examples of adaptation of English loan-words at the level of word-formation.
