Abstract

In this paper the author points out the diversity of literary and cultural- pedagogical material in the journal "Iskra" which, in one part of its program, pleaded for Kačić's ideal of a literature integrated into national life, while, on the other hand, it promulgated Čedontil's ideal of high European criteria in judging literary values and an openness towards European spiritual values. Thusly, the journal "Iskra”, in its own fashion, was a bridge between the Croatian literary tradition and Croatian modernity and, alongside Vijenac from Zagreb, was one of the leading journals in Croatian literature during the eighties and nineties of the last century.
