Ideas of some Marxist-oriented scholars concerning the problem and relationship of language, individual and society are discussed in this paper. The paper begins with a short introduction to Marx’s view of the role of society in giving shape to consciousness, language and Individual in the real life situation. We proceed to Vygotsky’s approach to the problem of the itcelleetual development in children. A. Luria’s experiment in which social changes are followed by the changes in the cognitive development of an individual on a wider cultural level. The discussion ends with Vološinov’s view of these matters on the philosophical level in the attempt to throw light on how an individual is integrated into society by means of language.
