Abstract

The article discusses the lexis of the upland kajkavian speakers, comparing them with the takavian speakers (especially of the North), as well as the lexis of the other kajkavian speakers in Slovenian, and of the Western štokavian speakers. In addition, the author considers the upland lexis in the kajkavian context, works out the inter-upland differences and classifies the numerous borrowed foreign words among which predominate words of German origin. Tire conclusion is that the upland lexis shows the influences that affected the considered idioms and that it Indicates distinctly archaic language features.
