Abstract

Nearly all the stories of Ivo Ćipiko can be grouped into three groups: I) Stories in which the persons are totaly and continually deeply connected with nature; in them this basic idea is so emphasized that they have got the character of a manifesto (»Antica«, »-Danguba«). II) Stories in which the sensual and erotic motiv appears as a characteristic or even dominant component (»-Na dogledu mora«, »Ukraj mora«, »Jelka«, »Otrgnut život«, »Preljub«, »U strasnu nedjelju«, »Čobani«). III) Stories with a bloody epilogue in which the unbridled forces of human nature and blood ov erhelm the conscience and the reason (»Pogibe k’o od šale«, »Na crkvenoj slavi«, »Na proštenju«). There remain still some stories which could partly fit into one of the upper naturist categories, but in them the social tendency is nevertheless dominant (»Sukob«, »Pisari«, »Zapad«, »Starica«).
