Proverbs have always been an important linguistic tool and it also means that a foreign language learner should be acquainted with them because of to reasons: — because of the enlerging of a linguistic competence — they might contribute to the improvement of translational capabilities. Contrastive analysis of proverbs might be of a great help for a successful teaching a foreign language. Generally speaking, contrastive analysis gives us an information about the domains and spheres of life described be the proverb, and why and by whom they are used. An analysis of individual proverbs informs us about the main characteristics of their surface and deep structure. The aim of this article it so demonstrate the various possibilities of a contrastive analysis of Croatien and German language, taking in consideration the fact that very little has been done on this field of research.
