Abstract

De humilitaie et gloria Christi is, according Io 'lie chronological sequence and ils length, Maruilć's lliird mornl-lheologicat work which, together with the previous two. De inxtiluticme bene vivendi and Euangclistarium, make up — one can say — a sort of trilogy. However, while the fust two have gone through many editions and have been commended. De huirdlittue was published and translated only once many years ago. According to the author, the reason is'to be sought partly in Marulić s more incisive censures of the high clergy and in his persistent promulgation of some of his stigmatized opinions, and partly in the saturation of the work by the allegorical exegesis of lire Bible; in changed circumstances, all of this did not meet with the necessary approval of competenl contemporaries
