In this paper tile author wanted to introduce and point out the importance of a manuscript work dating from 15. century, “Della mercatura cl del mercante perfetto" which is quite unknown to paremiologists. It proceeded to many well known European collections and might be considered as one of the first records of the proverbial thought among South Slavs. According to empirical research and the respondents* answers the majority of the proverbs found in the above mentioned work survived in nearly the same form in ordinary Croatian speech.
