In 1912 Cipiko moved from Dalmatia to Serbia to take part in the Balkan Warns aind Would Wair I as a wiair aanrespomdemit. Wliith other refugees he was retreating to the island of Corfu, keeping his War Diary and writing a series of stories, newspaper reports and desciptions of the war. From the literary point of view those writings cannot stand the comparison wath his stories from the Dalmatian life. Cipiko is a poet who receives and experiences outer impressions visually, not acoustically, which can be best seen in his metaphoric expressions. Consequently, his descriptions of battles and war nightmares, permeated with acoustic elements, have no poetic force and no originality. On the other hand, descriptions of nature with emphasized plastic elements have an enviable degree of achievement. Cipiko’s war themes have primarily a documentary importance. In addition, they show the auther’s sensibility to social problems. And lastly, in his war themes, and especially in the Diary he expressed, directly or indirectly, his philosophical principles and preoccupations and can be useful for his biographers.
