Abstract

After prolonged discussions pertaining to language as a means of acquiring knowledge, about the realtionship between thought and language, language is nowadays most frequently defined "as a system of articulated signs which is used by members of a community for the purpose of communication". The purpose of the article is to establish the means (morphological and syntactical) which have been developed and formalized in order for language to function in speech communication between human beings. We are referring to the following means; a grammatical case - the vocative; a verbal aspect - the imperative, two sentence modalities - the imperative and the interrogative; four parts of speech - personal pronouns, interrogative pronouns, adverbs and adjectives. The author concludes that this is a relatively small but nevertheless wholly sufficient number of language elements which make it possible that all the expressive possibilities of language be put into the service of communication between human beings.
