Proverbs are the most direct expression of the tradition and spirit of a people. As a woman (girl, wife, mother, widow) has a very specific status in the tradition, there arc a lot of proverbs which express it. The aim of this work is to make research into attitudes toward women, to state some similarities and differences of that altitude in different cultures, with special reference to the proverbial thought of Serbo-Croatian and English language.
