The term gynocritics has been introduced into Anglo-American feminist criticism by Elaine Showalter, one of the leading representatives of the American feminist criticism today. This article deals with the origin of gynocriticism in the context of the history of the feminist critical thought. Further, it deals with the gynocriticism itself, showing that it can not escape the logocentrism it tries to undermine, and that, consequently, it docs not lead to a new system of critical thought. Instead, it only replaces androcentric concepts of evaluation with gynocentric models of »difference« of the women’s writing.
