Abstract

On a sample of 139 adult women (20 to 60 years old) the author set out to discover how these women perceive their position and role. The results show that this perception correlates more with their education then with their age. To be more precise, although women with elementary schooling, with a high school diploma and with a college diploma valorise their family and “ public” roles in a similar manner, the women with an elementary schooling are more homogeneous than those with a college education. Regardless of their age or education, the examinees ascribe the greatest significance to their roles in the family. In regard to their education, they show greater differences in their understanding of their positions and roles in the sense that education to a significant extent modulates their attitudes, expectations and mode of behaviour in roles whose importance was monitored by this research.
