The paper reviews some of the theories of learning and their application in teaching practice. The emphasis is placed on some newer theories such as cognitive theory which completely elaborates its theory in such a way as to try to adopt it to the everyday practice of teaching. The author sets forth the conceptions of cognitive theory connected with the teaching of reading, writing and math based on establishing meaningful connections between the elements in the content to be taught. Cognitive psychology recommends that teaching be organised in such a manner that the teacher familiarises the pupil with the problem in order to animate his activity (thinking) whose course ought to be controlled. In order to better understand the content to be taught Robert Glaser lays down the following principles: questionings, explanations of ambiguous material, the separation of essentials and die anticipation of future parts of the content The author also describes the different theories of learning which have resulted in certain teaching methods and forms. In concluding the paper, the author describes experiental learning which represents an integral approach to learning, emphasising the importance of each segment in the learning process.Downloads
