Abstract

This paper deals with the question of the early appearance of perception of self-competence, as well as the question of the causes of individual differences in expectations of self-competence. A survey of investigations which are trying to give answers to these questions is given. It is suggested that most probably man has got an innate need for competence, which satisfaction or non-satisfaction significantly contributes to the development of self-concept in very early childhood.
