The system of art as "pattern of new problems"

Abstract

In continuance of earlier attempts to classify all arts, especially the attempts of M. Dessoir and E. Souriau, the author suggests a new, (more comprehensive and complete, system of arts which has grown »from the soil of empirical, not prescriptive, grammar; from the soil of physics, not aesthetics«, having taken as ithe starting point »the phÿsifcal and pliisiologicâl conditions Of the work of art, not the expression«. In reply to the criticism of Morpürgo-Tâgliâbuë of earlier Systems which have not become »a pattern of new problems«, the author is of opinion that his system will solve a series of problems in thé field Of the interpretation of art, specially problems connected with modern art.
