Vetranović’s Cupid

Abstract

Cupid i.e. Amor in the literary culture of the Medieval and Early Modern Period was not only an ornamental decoration, but "expanding its area of identityit became involved in cultural work" (J. K. Smith). The paper therefore, after abrief overview of the Cupidian motif in ancient, Medieval and Renaissance literaryand iconographic culture, analyzes the concept and the role of Cupid in Pjesancamladosti prva by Mavro Vetranović.
