Translations and Compilations of Vialla de Sommières' Travel Book on Montenegro in Trieste Magazines

Abstract

The research analyses the translation and compilation methods employed and examines the resulting image of Montenegro presented to Italian readers. Through a close examination of the translated excerpts, the research identifies patterns in selection and omission, as well as the editorial practices employed. Additionally, the study contextualizes the publication of these translations within the broader political and cultural climate of Trieste, exploring potential factors that fuelled the popularity of Vialla’s account.
